One of poverty's most central and destructive characteristics is the inability to positively change one's circumstances. Though they may work incredibly hard, the poor are often in positions which prevent them from significantly improving their position in life.
The Life Development ministry comes alongside individuals and families to help them take real and lasting steps forward which fundamentally alter their life trajectory. Help is provided in ways which come alongside the resources of the poor, empower them, push them toward action, and grow them in dignity and hope. The goal is not simply an improvement in material circumstances, but a growth in identify, self-confidence and the ability to continue to take positive steps forward in the future.
Goals are concrete and focused on providing lasting change. Examples include creating sustainable housing situations, dealing with long-term medical challenges, gaining legal standing, gaining access to education, finding paths toward stable work, and the like.
