Casa Esperanza is a ministry that helps meet the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of sex workers in the Red Light District in the capital of San Jose. An intern would accompany and work alongside the Catalyst and the Casa Esperanza team with the programs and resources that are offered. This would include leading or helping with life skill classes such as English, sewing, computer, jewelry, art, and haircutting, among others. An intern could also assist in managing the free the girls program, which helps women start a small business selling bras. Casa Esperanza periodically hosts women's health campaigns and testing for infectious diseases. Other opportunities include participating in therapy and social work sessions, food and clothing distribution, bible studies and worship, street ministry, and Casa Agape, a monthly worship service for trans sex workers. The ideal intern would have an intermediate to high level of Spanish fluency, a spirit of love and compassion, and the ability to step into difficult situations and demonstrate Gods justice amid extreme brokenness. A background in psychology or social work would be helpful.
