Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Is a vibrant and growing industrial and commercial city on the shores of Lake Michigan. Though part of the traditional “Rust Belt” of the US Great Lakes Region, Milwaukee has experienced a regentrification in recent years, renewing its infrastructure, and downtown area. The surrounding suburban areas have allowed for the Milwaukee region to experience growth in both population and vitality.
Milwaukee is not without its challenges. Crime, poverty, racial tensions, and unemployment continue to burden the area and the people who call Milwaukee home. The Milwaukee Enslavement initiative, A One Collective Catalytic project, is focused on a major issue facing not only Milwaukee, but the entire country. Due in part to lax wisconsin laws, Milwaukee has become one of the nation’s hubs for the training of human traffickers. Young men and women who have gotten caught up in sex trafficking are brought to Milwaukee as their traffickers are being trained in the sex trade. (Www.milwaukeeenns.org, “A crime hidden in plain sight: human trafficking in Milwaukee.”)
The focus of the Milwaukee Enslavement initiative is to collaborate with the Milwaukee Police Department, the State of Wisconsin, local schools, NFPs, and other organizations and individuals to bring needed awareness to the issue of human sex trafficking in order to catalyze systemic and policy change. Through education initiatives in local schools, education and awareness training with local motels, trainings through the Milwaukee PD, and advocacy with governmental agencies, the Milwaukee Enslavement initiative is bringing about Integrated Community Transformation by working to free those enslaved in Human trafficking.
