Situated in the northern part of the capital city, Bujumbura, Nyarumanga community is built around the rubbish dump for the whole city. Working with a ministry called Yada, we are seeking transformation of the community through the power of God's love.
Children as young as three years old can be found scavenging at the local dump for food or material that they can sell. This leads to a continued cycle of poverty due to low school attendance and education, leading to little opportunity for future achievement. Early years education provides that alternative for that critical time before children reach 7 years old and can go to school. Knowing that for many, finding food is very challenging, we provide nutritious porridge to keep them healthy and able to learn.
Our work is led through Ezekial and Nicola Hatungimana. They have built relationships in the community and invested their lives to see lives transformed.
Education is essential and so is food for vulnerable children and so those are prioritised for the most needy. Sharing the love of Christ with them and giving them a hope for the future is also the key ingredient.
There are a number of project whereby children are sponsored to go to preschool, there is a feeding program, a weekly kids club and a program to help families to become self sustaining, all of which is done with the desire to share the hope that Jesus brings. For those that are Jesus followers, we offer discipleship and development.
We ask for your prayers in reaching the most vulnerable.
If you would like to come and see the work or even join our team, please get in touch. If you feel led to give financially we would of course be appreciative as it takes a lot of funding and we know we are only touching the tip of an iceberg.
